The Ocean Project
Task: Student groups will create an original project that explores an area of interest they have in the topic of f ocean acidification. This project can be centered on a driving question or a problem that needs to be addressed by society. They will work on this project in phases throughout the two weeks provided. This project will have intermittent deadlines. Deadlines leading up the final project will count as informal assessments but the final project will count as 2 formal assessments. It is very important that this project be given diligent focus and attention. High quality projects will be expected. At the end of the project we will work as a class to present at a research symposium where local educators, district personnel, parents, and friends can come view the final projects. This presentation will take place on May 19th during your class time. Attendance is mandatory. If you are unable to present (extreme illness) then you must contact your teacher ahead of time and then you will have to present to a board of teachers.
This project will be completed in phases. Each phase will be briefly described below. Additional Information and ALL rubrics for this project will be found at www.creativechemistry.weebly.com and www.msstarkscience.weebly.com

Phase 1: Driving Question/Problem Identification/Topic Approval
- In this phase you will work to identify a problem or question that interests you and your groups and is related to the topic of chemistry in the oceans as it relates to ocean acidification and climate change. This problem or project can be very broad or very specific but it must allow you to create a final product that educates others on what you learned on that topic. Remember that your final product should take the form of a website or electronic platform that others will be able to access and learn from. Your topic should inspired by your reading of the provided anchor text and materials presented to you.
- This phase will allow you to begin exploring your topic. You will have to submit your sources via a google form by end of day on May 16th.
- The product(s) will due in class during your practice presentation which will take place in class on Wednesday May 17th. You will be graded according to the provided rubric.
- Your group will present in the library during your class period on May 19th for 1 hour to various audiences from school and the surrounding community. You will be graded according to the provided rubric.
- Each individual will complete a debrief google form ranking fellow members and themselves on their contributions to this project and will provide feedback on the future implementation of this project.
